Our world is changing dramatically. Glaciers are melting. The world's population is projected to reach 10 billion people by 2050 who need to be fed. This projected growth as well as growing incomes are driving meat consumption enormously. However, the current scale of the meat industry is already beyond unsustainable. Animal meat production is one of the largest instigators of the climate crisis.

Our goal is to provide a delicious eating experience – clean and without compromising on taste and eating habits.
We are committed to a sustainable and fair use of global resources and the protection of our environment.
We believe in treating animals with dignity and love instead of exploiting and mistreating them.
We do not use additives, chemicals, gluten, soy, GMOs, antibiotics or hormones.
Planted was founded in 2019 after Pascal Bieri was working in the USA in 2017 and became aware of various meat substitutes, but was bothered by the many additives. He brought his cousin Lukas Böni on board, who was in the process of completing his doctorate in food process engineering.
Through a professor at ETH Zurich, the two came together with ETH doctoral student Eric Stirnemann, who was particularly familiar with the wet extrusion process. The team was completed by Christoph Jenny, a finance expert who had already gained a lot of experience in the foodservice industry by this time. As a late founder, Judith Wemmer joined Planted’s executive board in 2020.
